Advanced Exploration of Movement - Movement From Within, Movement From Without

Movement is life! Movement shows us where we are limited, and where it is possible to expand to. Every part of us has the potential to move even more gracefully through life. In this experiential presentation, you will use hands-on movement to explore the different phases of Ortho-Bionomy and layers of the body. Through your heightened sensitivity to the fluidity of movement, your relationship with yourself and others can be expanded in ways that will take you to a whole new level in your practice. Someone to practice on during the presentation is recommended.

The Art of Ortho-Bionomy: Creativity, Imagination, and Intuition. What This Means for How We Teach, Learn, and Practice Ortho-Bionomy

Dr Arthur Pauls made the interesting point that…

“I have said many times that to truly learn, we have to develop our imaginative, intuitive awareness.”  (p.93)

We have brought together members from several countries to consider Arthur Pauls’ suggestion that to truly learn we need to develop our imaginative and intuitive awareness. Creativity, when embraced by the principles of Ortho-Bionomy, opens freedom for possibilities.

Such is the Art of Ortho-Bionomy.

From this perspective, teaching and learning Ortho-Bionomy techniques is simply insufficient. So, too is simply enacting learned Ortho-Bionomy techniques.

As Paul Henningsen says...

“The technician should never forget that he [sic] is an artist, the artist never that he is a technician.” This proposition will surely raise some interesting discussion not just about how we teach, learn and practice Ortho-Bionomy, but also how we prepare Instructors to perform the Art of Ortho-Bionomy in their teaching.

Come dice Paul Henningsen...

Vital Pelvic Techniques for Horse and Rider

Many times we are called to work on horses and their riders. Riders have particular challenges, sometimes as a result of injuries from working with equines. The work can be table work, or standing, or sitting on a mounting block or the horse. Sometimes table work is a prerequisite to working together with the horse, particularly when the rider has a number of imbalances. It may be necessary to work with the horse individually first also. The spine-to-spine relationship (human coccyx to equine thoracics) is unique. When working with horse and rider together, you can employ the strengths of each being to initiate change. The horse may have strengths in the pelvis and stuck points that the human does not, and vice versa. The way the rider moves in the saddle may impinge on the horse’s movement, and a stiffness in the horse’s spine may translate as resistance to the human.

So How's Your Period? Why and How to Address Women's Health Problems from Menstruation to Menopause

Women's menstrual cycle is now considered one of the 5 vital signs of health because it tells us about the state of our client's overall health. I'll discuss why we should be asking our women clients about their cycle and symptoms, what these indicate, what lifestyle factors influence the cycle from first period to last, how to educate our clients and how to use Ortho-Bionomy to restore balance to the reproductive system.

The Neglected Phases of Ortho-Bionomy and the Importance of Play

What are the "neglected Phases?" Why, One, Two, and Three. We will quickly dispense with One (What's the point? But maybe the point is not the point). Drawing from Arthur Pauls' last (written) words on the subject, we will look at what is meant by the Phases. There are a lot of different stories, and all of them are true (at least to the extent they are useful, as the Phases are a fiction. That means they are there to have FUN with: Phase Phun. Think of the Phases as the important elements brought to bear in a session. We will go deeper into Phases Two and Three, which speak most directly to our theme. And what about the Phase of As-If?

Working With the Tongue

The tongue is a crucial part of our identity. It is a primary tool for connecting with our world. It is how we taste, swallow, drink, and speak. It is a part of us yet it waggles and explores and expresses. With our tongue we touch our insides to the outside world. In my presentation I will cover some basic tongue anatomy. You will practice techniques on yourself and learn how to apply the techniques in your practice. Working with the tongue can support balance in the jaw, cranium, throat, and gut. I have found these techniques can be crucial with TMJ joint dysfunction, whiplash, cranial imbalance, imbalance in the Central Nervous System, neck tension, digestive stress, tongue surgery recovery, and balance in the eyes. Combining tongue techniques with other Orttho-Bionomy techniques can increase your efficiency and expand your understanding.
